Azima Appoints Ken Piety, Pioneer in Vibration Analysis, as Vice President of Technology
WOBURN, MA – January 15, 2008 – Azima, a provider of software and services to monitor industrial machine reliability, today announced the appointment of Kenneth R. Piety as Vice President of Technology. Piety is a vibration analysis pioneer and co-founded Computational Systems Inc., which was acquired by the Fortune 500 giant Emerson Electric Company for $165 million.
Piety has a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering, holds 32 patents related to reliability-based maintenance technologies, and has authored more than 30 publications. He initiated the routine use of vibration analysis and other condition assessment technologies on the factory floor, as they were previously limited to academia.
Piety co-founded Computational Systems Inc. (CSI) based in Knoxville, Tennessee. CSI was a global designer, producer, and marketer of condition-monitoring products and services. In 1994, the company was recognized by Inc. Magazine as one of the Top 50 fastest growing companies in the United States. While at CSI, Piety developed portable, route-based data collection and analysis techniques that enabled industry to implement predictive and proactive maintenance strategies. CSI still exists today as a division of Emerson Electric Company.

As Vice President of Technology at Azima, Piety will lead technology-related initiatives and help drive strategic direction of the company. He will spearhead software development of the company’s ADVANTAGETM Reliability Portal, making certain that it meets and exceeds the monitoring needs of the company’s industrial clients. He will also oversee hardware evaluation, providing clients with the most reliable, cost-effective capabilities available. Lastly, he will act as a key member of Azima’s management team, helping to ensure that Azima continuously provides customers with unmatched reliability services at a competitive price.
Piety earned both his Ph.D. and his undergraduate degree at the University of Tennessee, with majors in Mathematics and Nuclear Reactor Engineering for both degrees.
